Aloha! Welcome to the sixth edition of "The Coconut Chronicles" presented by Billy and Pete Jalbert, Realtors for the Maui Real Estate Team in Paia, Maui. That being said, there are many beautiful Maui Golf Course properties to choose from in the current market inventory. Upcountry Golf Homes

Pukalani Terrace

Hokulani
Hokulani is a new development being built around the Elleair Golf Course in Kihei. This 152 home subdivision is being developed in phases. The first phase units just went on sale with only two homes remaining. Prices on these homes were in the high 900 range. Maui Moments: Golf on Maui

I am not a Golfer. There was a brief flirtation with Golf during my senior year of high school. My parents gave me a pair of clubs and I hit the driving range with passion. College put golf on the back burner and the closest I have come to playing since has been repeated viewings of the comedy classic Caddy Shack. If there is a place that may be suited to picking up the game again, it is Maui. Thus far, I have channeled most of my free time to water sports but there will come a day when I will dust off my old clubs. In the meantime other golfers and golf course property owners can sleep soundly knowing I won't be slicing a ball in their direction anytime soon.

For those who casually play the game of golf, or those who practice their golf game with an almost religious fervor, Maui is close to Nirvana. Year round golf and challenging courses make for an ideal situation. The seventeen courses located on-island are bound to keep you busy and challenged regardless of skill level.

South Maui Golf Courses

Makena North and South Courses
The North Course was designed by Robert Trent Jones jr. and has a very natural feel to it with its great views of Haleakala and the Pacific. Archaeological remnants of Ancient Hawaii were preserved during the construction of the course adding to its charms. The South Course was also designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. and is lauded both for its challenges and tranquil setting. Set at the far end of South Maui's resort areas, its well spaced tee times keep the crowds to a minimum and add to the sense of seclusion. Both courses have been lauded by magazines such as The Golfer, Golf Digest and Golf for Women as being among the countries best courses.

Wailea Golf Courses
There are three great golf courses in Wailea including the Gold Course which hosts the PGA Senior Skins Game. For additional information on Wailea's courses check out our Coconut Chronicles article on Wailea and Wailea Golf.

Elleair Golf Club Kihei
This Bill Noewis designed public course is a Par 71. Situated near the top of Kihei, it has nice views of the Pacific, Neighbor Islands, the West Maui Mountains and Haleakala. It is one of the best values on island and is soon to be surrounded by luxury homes.

West Maui Golf Courses

Kaanapali Golf Courses
The Resort Course South is undulating with broad fairways that accommodate players of all abilities. Coconut Palms and Norfolk Pines line the fairways and the Sugar Cane Train steaming by the course add to the scenery speaking to the area's natural beauty and the history of Old Lahaina. The Tournament North Course is a more challenging course. Ranging from the Shoreline to the foothills of the West Maui Mountains, the course will challenge your putting skills and demands that you choose your clubs wisely. Of course the scenery is spectacular with views of the Pacific, Neighbor Isles of Lanai and Molokai and the spectacular west flank of the West Maui Mountains.

Kapalua Golf Courses
Kapalua is Maui's most famous area for golf. During the first week of January, when the average mainland golf course is buried under a foot of snow, the golfing world shifts its attention to Maui for the Mercedes Championship. This tournament features the winners of last year's PGA events going head to head in a spectacular setting. Big waves peel along Honolua Bay. Whales breach off shore. The Mountains of Molokai and the West Maui Mountains reach towards the sky. It is a pretty spectacular stage. Set along the rolling foothills of the West Maui Mountains amongst the area's pineapple plantations is the Plantation Course. This course is obviously challenging as it gives the PGA pros all they can handle. The course was designed by Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore. The Bay course is another Kapalua Gem designed by Arnold Palmer and Francis Duane. The signature hole is the 5th set right on the water. Kapalua's last course is the Village also Village accommodates players of all skill levels winding through the Cook and Norfolk Pines in the West Maui foothills.

Central Maui Golf Courses

Kahili
Formerly known as the Sandalwood Course, this course is nestled into the windward side of the West Maui Mountains south of Wailuku.

The Dunes at Maui Lani
Located just outside of Kahului, the course has great views of the West Maui Mountains and Haleakala. The course designed by Robin Nelson is said to have a Scottish feel minus the cold weather of course. It has been met with critical acclaim by a number of golf publications.

Waiehu Municipal
Located in Wailuku and overlooking the North Shore of Maui. The front nine skirts the ocean while the back nine meanders up into the Windward West Maui foothills. This course is one of, if not the best values on Maui.

North Shore Golf Courses

Maui Country Club
The Maui Country Club just outside of Paia in Spreckelsville is a private course open to public on non-holiday Mondays. The course has beautiful views of Haleakala.

Upcountry Golf Courses

Pukalani
Pukalani's upcountry elevation means cooler temperatures and great views. It is an affordable course with lots of majestic Norfolk Pines lining the fairways. The 18 hole course was designed by Bob Baddock.

Pukulani Golf Course

Neighbor Isle Courses
If Maui's 17 fantastic golf courses aren't enough to fill the voracious golfers appetite there are 3 more golf courses in Maui County to consider playing. The Challenge at Manele Bay is a Nicklaus designed masterpiece. Its breathtaking views and challenging holes have captured the fancy of many a golfer. The Experience at Koele is truly a different Hawaii experience. With a starting elevation of approximately 2,000 feet golfers are treated to cool temperatures, stunning natural beauty and frequent viewings of deer, pheasant and other Lanai wildlife. Finally, after lying dormant for several years the Kaluakoi golf course on the west end of Molokai reopened in 2004. There is also a 9 hole public course on Molokai.
