The Maui County Council Land use committee recommended approval of a significant redevelopment plan in the heart of downtown Paia. Developers have proposed a make over of an eleven acre parcel bordered by Hana Highway, Baldwin Avenue and Luna place. The plan calls for the construction of two new buildings, paving and lighting the parking lot behind the existing businesses, a new police substation, new public bathrooms and rerouted traffic pattens.
The two new buildings will total over 9,000 square feet of commercial space between two two story buildings. One building will be located between Milagros Restaurant and Alice in Hula Land. The other structure will be back in the South east corner of the property at the current site of a residential property on Luna Place. None of the current tenants in the current commercial properties will be displaced. The proposal received support across from the land use committee. It will now go in front of the rest of the Maui County Council for approval. Check out the article in today’s Maui News for additional information.
