What's it like to live in Wailea year-round?
Plenty of owners live in Wailea full time, not just seasonally. You get steady sun, calm beaches, and the Shops at Wailea for groceries and dining nearby. It suits both full-time residents and second-home owners.
What are Wailea's Least Expensive Neighborhoods?
Wailea’s appeal comes with a high price tag. If you are looking for the lowest-priced options, the Wailea Kialoa, Wailea Pualani, and Wailea Kai neighborhoods are likely to have the most options. Recent low sales have hovered around $2,000,000. Be aware that homes in this price range may need some updating or deferred maintenance to be addressed.
What options do I have if I want to live directly on the beach or ocean in Wailea?
For homes, the options are limited to Maluhia at Wailea. That is the only residential neighborhood on the beach, and only five homes in the neighborhood are on the water, although all homes in the community have deeded beach access. Needless to say, listings in the neighborhood are rare. Keawakapu Beach, just to the North of Wailea, and Makena have a lot more direct oceanfront and beachfront options. If you are open to condominium living, there are a number of condo developments on the ocean in Wailea.
Is Wailea or Makena a better fit for a luxury buyer?
This comes down to personal preference. Wailea is probably a better choice for those who want all the resort amenities like golf, shopping, and fine dining close by. Both communities have stunning beaches. Makena tends to be a little quieter; there are more oceanfront properties, and pricing tends to be higher.
How far is Wailea from the airport and the rest of Maui?
Wailea is in South Maui, about a 35- to 45-minute drive from Kahului Airport, depending on traffic. Kihei and its shops are a few minutes north. Big-box stores, the island’s hospital, and most medical facilities are in Central Maui, close to the airport.
