January 2021 – UPDATE: This condo is not currently listed for sale. You can check out our Sugar Cove page for current listings and information on the development.  You may also contact the Maui Real Estate Team to see if we might be able to help you find a willing seller.

If you are a regular reader of The Maui Real Estate Blog, chances are you have seen a few photos and videos from the beach at Sugar Cove in Spreckelsville. It is a favorite play ground for The Maui Real Estate Team. Whether it’s surfing, sup, kiting, windsurfing, body surfing, boogie boarding, taking in a sunset or just having a picnic, The Maui Real Estate Team and family enjoys playing along this stretch of North Shore coastline. Up until today, you haven’t heard us talk too much about real estate and Sugar Cove. Sugar Cove has a small 18 unit luxury condominium complex that is right on the beach. These condos seldom come on the market. That is why we are particularly excited to announce that we have listed a Sugar Cove Condo for Sale.

With over 2,000 square feet of beachfront living, this incredibly spacious, 3 bedroom, 3.5 bath condo feels like a home. The immaculate grounds at Sugar Cove offer a gated, private community with the feel of old Hawaii. Sugar Cove is walking distance to the Maui Country Club and close to Pa’ia shopping and restaurants, the airport and other island amenities.

The Butterfly Effect Maui Video

Here is a great video on fifth annual Butterfly Effect Maui. The Butterfly Effect is a woman’ s water sport event that focuses on camaraderie versus competition. It grew from roughly 20 participants in the first year to well over 100 this year despite some blustery conditions.

The Maui Real Estate Team is proud to have had the opportunity to sponsor the event. We look forward to watching The Butterfly Effect continue to grow and flourish in the coming years.

Jaws Photos January 20th 2011

After meeting with some clients in Haiku today, I took a quick side trip through the old pineapple fields to check out the action at Jaws. There was a high surf warning today. That means the weather service was predicting wave faces in excess of 25 feet at selected locations along the North and West facing shorelines of the Hawaiian Islands. These are the type of conditions necessary to make the waves at Jaws break. There were a few windsurfers and tow surfers in the water testing their mettle in the wind blown waves. By Jaws standards, today’s waves were relatively small. Granted those small waves are pretty scary for mere mortals.

Small days still create big whitewater!

I stuck around to watch a few sets roll through the lineup. Even on small day, this place is quite the spectacle of nature.

Congratulations Lenny Family!!!

Billy and I wanted to extend a huge congratulations to Maui Real Estate Team member Martin Lenny and his family. Martin was over on the Big Island yesterday to watch the last contest of the inaugural Stand Up Paddle (SUP) World Tour. Martin was no casual observer as both his sons were competing. Martin’s son Ridge qualified to be a participant in the main event by winning the Nakama Kai Kids SUP event. Not only did Ridge qualify, but he made it through his first heat to the second round. Needless to say, this is an outstanding accomplishment for a 13 year old. Great job Ridge!

While Ridge was getting his first taste of the SUP tour, Martin’s older son Kai has been competing on this year’s tour since the very first event. Kai started the year with a bang back when he won the very first event at Sunset Beach in massive surf. He placed well at additional stops along the way in Europe and Brazil to position himself as the top ranked surfer going into yesterday’s event. If Kai placed well, chances are that that the talented eighteen year old would win the very first world title offered in SUP. Kai left no room for doubt when he won yesterday’s event. Congratulations to Kai on his World Title! Congratulations also go out to Martin and his wife Paula. Not only are they raising two very talented watermen, they are also fantastic kids off the water.

A Maui Real Estate Blog Retrospective

There were a couple of events this week that had me reminiscing about an old post on our blog. Earlier in the week, I was forwarded a Youtube video by a friend. The video shown below features part time Maui resident and Stand Up Paddle/Big Wave charger Laird Hamilton making a cameo appearance on kid’s show Phineas and Ferb. Laird goes zipping by the characters on his stand up paddle board.

The other event is the running of the fifth annual Naish Paddle Championship. In the first couple of years of the championship, Stand Up Paddling was a small, but growing niche of the competition. Prone paddleboarding was the dominant part of the competition. In the fifth year, the vast majority of the participants will have paddles in hand.

The sport of Stand Up Paddling has seen huge growth throughout the last five years. The boards are ubiquitous at surf spots on Maui and locales around the world. As evidenced above, it is even making its way into pop culture references. This is a far cry from just a few years back when The Maui Real Estate Blog was a primary media resource for Stand Up Paddling.

Billy and I were pretty quick to try out the sport of stand up paddle surfing when it came to the shores of Maui. In the 2004 and 2005 time frame, it was a popular cross training tool and alternate surf vehicle for elite water athletes. We were among the first average Joe’s to try the sport. I chronicled some of our initial outings on the water on The Maui Real Estate Blog. As a testament to the limited scope of the sport at the time, it did not take long for one of my stand up paddle blog posts to reach top position in the search engines.

As the sport began to gain in popularity, our ranking for stand up paddle related search terms held, and the post started to draw a lot of traffic and in some cases inquiries. We received e-mails from people as far afield as Brazil, Europe, New Zealand and throughout various parts of the U.S. People wanted to know more about the sport and where they could get the equipment. Our blog post even made it into the Australian Publication Kanu Kulture.

Over the last couple of years, Stand Up Paddling has become the fastest growing segment of the surfing market and our blog post quickly fell in the rankings as sites dedicated to SUP grew in numbers. Billy and I are making it out on our Stand Up Boards a little less than we used to in the past. Creaky joints have not been our friend. That being said, its fun to know our little real estate blog had some relevance in this quickly growing sport.
