It looks as if a plan for new commercial development in Paia are continuing to move forward. The Maui News reports that a critical step to the Paia Town Center was made when the developers received the approval of the Paia Mainstreet Association at a community planning meeting Wednesday night. The new development will consist of two new buildings and the creation of a paved and lighted parking area. The one building will situated in the area between Milagro’s and Alice and Hula Land. The other building will be constructed in the south east corner of the unpaved parking area. Local merchants were particularly excited about the prospect of paved, lighted and security patrolled parking. The developers were also amenable to allocating space for a potential police annex in town. We will continue to provide updates on the Paia Town Center as it moves forward through the county approval process.
