The Maui News has had a couple of articles on proposed new housing projects on Maui. Honua’ula has been a fixture in the local news as of late. The most recent article gave an update on the public hearing for the project. It sounds as if any public hearing would mean that the current land use commission review would be cut off and the review process would start over after the public testimony. A date and location for public testimony has yet to be decided, but county council members who have been pushing for the public hearing would like it to be held at a time and location that would maximize the opportunity for public comment. Honua’ula has been subject to considerable debate with strong support both for and against the development. Click here for the latest Honua’ula article in the Maui News.
The land use commission may be reviewing another new development before the end of the year. Pu’ukoli’i Village is a proposed affordable housing development for West Maui. Developers hope the review for the process would allow for groundbreaking in 2009 and home occupancy starting 2010. While most projects in West Maui have been subject to some level of opposition, Pu’ukoli’i appears to have broader community support. Check out Friday’s Maui News Article for additional information on the proposed development. We will continue to provide updates on Pu’ukoli’i and Honua’ula on the Maui Real Estate Blog.
