Are Vacation Rentals Allowed at the Palms at Wailea?
The Palms is an apartment-zoned condominium complex where owners can vacation rent due to county ordinance. The County of Maui recently passed Bill 9, which would sunset short-term rentals in the apartment district. As things stand, vacation rentals would be prohibited at the Palms after January 1, 2031.
However, the new law is facing lawsuits. There is also legislation being reviewed by the Maui County Planning Commissions that would establish two new types of Hotel Zoning, H3 and H4. The new zoning would be equivalent to the current A1 and A2 districts, with one critical difference: the right to vacation rent.
