Haiku's Agricultural Roots
From the late 19th century up until the start of the 21st century, Haiku was a focal point for plantation agriculture on the island. Large swaths of the community were dedicated to growing Pineapple and Sugar Cane. The community’s agricultural roots remain evident in the old plantation homes scattered around the community. Former pineapple canneries have been recommissioned as the communities commercial hubs. They are now home to restaurants, grocery stores, gyms, yoga studios, and other local businesses.
